Sompal contributed a valuable 48 runs off 56 balls. India’s spinners struggled to make an impact against Nepal’s experienced batsmen. Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets by conceding 40 runs, but other spinners like Kuldeep Yadav (34 runs in 10 overs) were less successful. Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj claimed three wickets by giving away 61 runs, while Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur, and Hardik Pandya each took one wicket.

India’s opening pair, however, showcased excellent batting practice, adopting an aggressive approach from the beginning. They started aggressively after the rain delay. Before this, India’s fielding wasn’t up to the mark. They had the opportunity to send both of Nepal’s openers back to the pavilion in the first seven balls of the match, but Shreyas Iyer dropped Bhurtel’s catch off Shami’s final delivery of the first over, while in Siraj’s first over, Virat Kohli dropped a straightforward catch off Asif’s bat. Ishan Kishan also contributed with two wickets, taking Bhurtel’s wicket with a catch.

Nepal’s batsmen, then, tried to build pressure on the Indian bowlers by reaching the boundary at regular intervals. Nepal scored 65 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first 10 overs of the powerplay, including seven fours and two sixes. India’s first success came in the 10th over when Thakur took Bhurtel’s wicket with a catch behind. He had hit three fours and two sixes in his innings.

In the next five overs, Nepal managed to score only 12 runs, and during this period, Bhim Sharki (7) lost his wicket to Jadeja, who contributed with his wickets.
